Rachel's research and leadership practice have been recognized across a number of National and International forums. In 2016 and 2018 Rachel was awarded the position of New Zealand Educational Leadership Society Visiting Scholar. In 2015 Rachel received the Meritorious Service Award for her service to leadership in New Zealand. In 2011 Rachel was the recipient of the International Emerald-European Foundation for Management and Development Outstanding Research Award for Leadership and Strategy, and in 2010 she was awarded the New Zealand Education Administration and Leadership Society Presidential Research Award for her work with young women leaders in schools.

Rachel won this international award for her PhD Thesis titled Young women and leadership: Co-constructing leadership programmes in schools using student voice.
New Zealand Association for Educational Research - Sutton Smith Doctoral Thesis Research Award. Rachel was nominated for the New Zealand Association for Educational Research Sutton Smith Doctoral Award.
Emerald Publishing Outstanding Special Issue of the Year (2011).
The special edition of the Journal of Educational Administration “Globalization: expanding horizons in women's leadership” was awarded the Emerald Publishing Outstanding special issue. Rachel was an author in the volume.
2010 NZEALS Presidents Research Award
Rachel was awarded this research award by the New Zealand Educational Administration and Leadership Society. This award recognizes meritorious research and scholarship in the field of educational management, administration and leadership.
